A correlation between the SiO and the Fe 6 . 4 keV line emission from the Galactic center

چکیده
One of the most interesting results of the X-ray observations with the ASCA satellite of the Galactic center (GC) is the spatial distribution and the intensity of the Fe line at 6.4 keV. Up to now the morphology and the intensity of this line have been a puzzle. In this letter we present a map of the GC in the J=1→0 line of SiO covering the same region than the ASCA observations. The SiO emission is restricted to molecular clouds with radial velocity between 10 and 60 km s −1 in the Sgr A and Sgr B complexes. We find a correlation between the SiO morphology and the spatial distribution of the Fe 6.4 keV line, on the large scale and also within Sgr A and Sgr B. The SiO abundance increases by a factor of > ∼20 in the regions with strong Fe 6.4 keV line. This indicates that the Fe 6.4 keV line mainly arises from molecular clouds with large gas phase abundance of refractory elements. We discuss the implications of the correlation on the origin of the hard X-rays, and the heating and the chemistry of the molecular clouds in the GC.

X–ray emission from the giant molecular clouds in the Galactic Center region and the discovery of new X–ray sources
We report the results of X–ray (2–10 keV) observations of the giant molecular clouds Sgr B, Sgr C and Sgr D in the Galactic Center region, together with the discovery of the point-like source SAX J1748.2–2808. The data have been obtained with the MECS instrument on the BeppoSAX satellite. The core of Sgr B2 has an X–ray luminosity of ∼6×10 erg s and its spectrum is characterized by a strong Fe ...
متن کامل74 MHz nonthermal emission from molecular clouds: evidence for a cosmic ray dominated region at the galactic center.
We present 74 MHz radio continuum observations of the Galactic center region. These measurements show nonthermal radio emission arising from molecular clouds that is unaffected by free–free absorption along the line of sight. We focus on one cloud, G0.13-0.13, representative of the population of molecular clouds that are spatially correlated with steep spectrum (α(327MHz)(74MHz) = 1.3 ± 0.3) no...
متن کاملIron Emission Lines on the Galactic Ridge Observed with Suzaku
In order to elucidate origin of the Galactic Ridge X-ray Emission, we analyzed Suzaku data taken at various regions along the Galactic plane and studied their Fe-K emission line features. Suzaku resolved the Fe line complex into three narrow lines at ∼6.4 keV, ∼6.7 keV and ∼6.97 keV, which are K-lines from neutral (or low-ionized), He-like, and H-like iron ions, respectively. The 6.7 keV line i...
متن کاملThe Origin of Diffuse X-ray and γ-ray Emission from the Galactic Center Region: Cosmic Ray Particles
The inner couple hundred pcs of our Galaxy is characterized by significant amount of synchrotron-emitting gas, which appears to co-exist with a large reservoir of molecular gas. Many of the best studied sources in this region exhibit a mixture of 6.4 keV Fe Kα emission, molecular line emission and nonthermal radio continuum radiation. The spatial correlation between fluorescent Fe K-α line emis...
متن کاملCharacteristics of Diffuse X-ray Line Emission within 20 Pc of the Galactic Center
Over the last three years, the Galactic center region has been monitored with the Chandra X-Ray Observatory. Besides the X-ray emission from the target object, Sgr A*, diffuse X-ray emission was detected throughout most of the 17 × 17 field of view. With 11 Chandra observations through 2002 June, the total effective exposure reaches ∼590 ks, providing significant photon statistics on much of th...
